urtwm drops under heavy load

Jon Fineman
>Synopsis: urtwm drops under heavy sustained load
>Category: kernel
>Environment:
        System      : OpenBSD 6.6
        Details     : OpenBSD 6.6-current (GENERIC.MP) #439: Fri Nov  8 14:00:31 MST 2019
                         [hidden email]:/usr/src/sys/arch/amd64/compile/GENERIC.MP

        Architecture: OpenBSD.amd64
        Machine     : amd64
>Description:
urtwm drops under heavy sustained load. Light sustained load and short bursts do not cause the drop. When the device drops, replugging it and restarting networking brings it back up fine.
>How-To-Repeat:
sysupgrade will sometimes cause the device to drop. I have not noticed any specific pattern of traffic to trigger it.
>Fix:
Replug the dongle and restart the network. The device will return to a working state.

Re: urtwn drops under heavy load

Chris Bennett-6
Sorry to top post

It is urtwn.

urtwn0 at uhub3 port 3 configuration 1 interface 0 "Realtek 802.11n WLAN Adapter" rev 2.00/2.00 addr 4
urtwn0: MAC/BB RTL8188CUS, RF 6052 1T1R, address 74:da:38:f5:9c:dd

I have the same problem with random failures. For a long time. I was assuming it was due to being a POC.
Had a very short lifetime. I'm using a second one. It's very picky about how I connect it over USB.
Some connections work, others don't.
Still think it's a F@$%ng POC, but a fix would be welcome.
