If you disable forwarding, does the vr behave ? i.e. are you able too
boot up w/o a panic, push traffic through it etc ?

It worked fine prior to plugging in the ral card, but I did not stress
it much after the install. I did the installation by downloading
everything through vr0 after booting the snapshot bsd.rd, though, if
 that means anything.

Re: system/5881: Kernel panic when forwarding between vr and ral

Stuart Henderson
As an additional data point, I don't have any problems with ral(4)
and vr(4) on this system: (it's a bridge not routed, and it's up a
pole at a customer's site so I can't really experiment with it now
;-)

Subject: Re: system/5881: Kernel panic when forwarding between vr and ral
Date: Mon, 21 Jul 2008 19:59:29 -0600

 There are 9 tests here:

 1-3: (GENERIC) #2 with ipv6 turned off.
 4-6: (GENERIC) #1 with ipv6 turned off.
 7-9: (GENERIC) #2 with ipv6 enabled.

(GENERIC) #1 is -current with vr reverted to the previous version
(GENERIC) #2 is -current with no changes.

Configuration information follows the first dmesg. I cut out most
 redundant dmesg contents.

It fails most quickly (immediately) if ipv6 is enabled. With ipv6 turned
off, it sometimes fails after a while and sometimes works indefinitely
 but panics upon shutdown.

Welcome to OpenBSD: The proactively secure Unix-like operating system.

Please use the sendbug(1) utility to report bugs in the system.
Before reporting a bug, please try to reproduce it with the latest
version of the code.  With bug reports, please try to ensure that
enough information to reproduce the problem is enclosed, and if a
known fix for it exists, include that as well.

Subject: Re: system/5881: Kernel panic when forwarding between vr and ral
Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2008 09:13:50 -0600

 Greetings:

It looks like we have a winner. I applied the patches from damien@ and
dlg@, enabled wpa and ipv6, and gave it a try. I downloaded a bunch of
stuff to the laptop overnight and then did a clean shutdown the next
 morning. No problems.

cvs diff, dmesg, and other info follow...

Thanks for all the good work.

OK. This is great. But, can you try this without the patch from dlg@,
this will mirror whats now in -current; Hopefully rev1.99 of mbuf.h
doesnt not need to be backed out and things will continue too work
 for you without dlg@'s diff.

Thanks alot for the testing efforts.
