problem building dbus as dependency from subversion

Riccardo Mottola
Hi,

As people on the misc list had already to endure, I'm trying to get
subversion on my Sparc (SPARC 5).

I am building with FLAVOR="no_bindings" , to avoid problems with "boost".

In dbus I get:

-- No need to copy test data as srcdir = builddir
gmake[3]: Leaving directory '/home/ports/pobj/dbus-1.8.16/dbus-1.8.16/test'
Making all in name-test
gmake[3]: Entering directory
'/home/ports/pobj/dbus-1.8.16/dbus-1.8.16/test/name-test'
gmake[3]: Nothing to be done for 'all'.
gmake[3]: Leaving directory
'/home/ports/pobj/dbus-1.8.16/dbus-1.8.16/test/name-test'
gmake[2]: Leaving directory '/home/ports/pobj/dbus-1.8.16/dbus-1.8.16/test'
Making all in doc
gmake[2]: Entering directory '/home/ports/pobj/dbus-1.8.16/dbus-1.8.16/doc'
/usr/local/bin/xmlto man dbus-cleanup-sockets.1.xml
Makefile:764: recipe for target 'dbus-cleanup-sockets.1' failed
gmake[2]: *** [dbus-cleanup-sockets.1] Bus error (core dumped)
gmake[2]: Leaving directory '/home/ports/pobj/dbus-1.8.16/dbus-1.8.16/doc'
Makefile:656: recipe for target 'all-recursive' failed
gmake[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
gmake[1]: Leaving directory '/home/ports/pobj/dbus-1.8.16/dbus-1.8.16'
Makefile:523: recipe for target 'all' failed
gmake: *** [all] Error 2

If I go in the dbus build directory and search for a core I find none
(find . -name \*.core )

Actually I don't find a core file in /usr/ports !

Suggestions? what is going wrong?

no one has a hint? Did other compile dbus? I still wonder why I do need
dbus for svn... but hell, the days of cvs are over :(

dbus - or rather its documentation - does not build on sparc due to a
segfault in bash.

Hello,

Compilation failure with "bus error, core dumped" usually indicate an out of memory error.  Similar issues were seen trying to compile things on a SPARCstation 5 with 64MB RAM.  Upgrading to 256MB RAM solved it.

wow, high-quality code then, bash!

I have installed a bash version compiled with debug symbols, since I
already had in past had troubles building packages.

Maybe the core file is so bi that it does't fit my disk? I have 128MB of
phys. RAM at the moment.

Hi Jon,

I am still looking for additional RAM!
Actually I wanted my build machine to be the SS20 which has slightly
more RAM, 160MB. But The CPU is unstable with OpenBSD.

did you get core file in these cases?

Were you able to build dbus? From the other post I read it is a platform
problem, not just a RAM problem.
