inteldrm "gpu hung!"

frantisek holop
hi there,

Dec 15 22:34:09 amaaq /bsd: inteldrm0: gpu hung!

i have encountered this fellow for the first time so far.
when the desktop itself becomes the wallpaper :]

googling a bit around i see that there are numerous
linux bug reports about similar issues as well.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=649860
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25475
http://www.pubbs.net/201003/kernel/58672-regresion-2634-rc1-drmi915hangcheckelapsed-error-hangcheck-timer-elapsed-gpu-hung.html

http://cvs.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/query-pr-wrapper?full=yes&numbers=6503
or (looks like same)
http://cvs.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/query-pr-wrapper?full=yes&numbers=6505

looking at the source in sys/dev/pci/drm/i915_drv.c:4410
it seems to me that this state is actually anticipated at times,
even twice in a row :]  as there in no panic(), i guess it is
also expected that the hw gets itself together and the system
continues working?  what does it mean if it doesn't?
is there a way to fix it?

Dec 16 00:28:07 amaaq /bsd: inteldrm0: gpu hung!

guess i'll be seeing this message quite often now.

btw. i forgot to add that this was in both cases on dual head.
maybe that's why i havent seen it before, there was no external display.

Hi,

Can you try to reproduce the bug, after adding:

Section "Device"
        Identifier "Intel 82915GM Video"
        Option "FramebufferCompression" "False"
EndSection

To your /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?

Cheers,
David
