[d-bug@psconsult.nl: [D-BUG] An Evening with BSD ...]

Otto Moerbeek
FYI,

        -Otto

Hallo BSD-fans!

voor 15 april a.s. "An Evening with BSD" georganiseerd.

aankondigen.

Met vriendelijke groeten,

Paul Schenkeveld

Ruben de Groot, Competa IT: Jails now and in the future

The jail (2) system call first appeared in FreeBSD 4.0. It was written by
Poul-Henning Kamp for R&D Associates ``http://www.rndassociates.com/'' who
contributed it to FreeBSD. Since then, other Operating Systems have
implemented a variety of similar mechanisms (Solaris Zones, Linux UML).
None of them as clean and flexible as the FreeBSD implementation.
In this presentation I'll first try to give an overall description of the
technical details of jails (including a preview of things to come),
followed by a Real World(TM) example of an implementation of jails at a
Competa customer.

About the Speaker: Ruben de Groot is a Senior UNIX Engineer / Architect
with Competa IT. He is a long time adept of the FreeBSD project and has
built many different systems using FreeBSD.

Paul Schenkveld, PSConsult: Creating Embedded systems with NanoBSD

Small energy efficient or specialized computers are becoming more popular
and are being used for all kinds of tasks, varying from (VoIP) phone
exchanges, small firewalls, (wifi) routers to process control and sensor
networks. There are different tools to adapt your favorite operating
system and install it on embedded hardware.
In this talk we will discuss the challenges of using embedded systems, and
show you how we can make use of nanobsd, a standard freebsd tool to build,
install and maintain embedded software systems.

About the Speaker: Paul Schenkveld is an ICT professional since the 70-s
and has worked with UNIX since 1983. After growing up with 7th ed and
system III based equipment he has supported and programmed system V for
more than 10 years, until he stumbled upon the FreeBSD project in 1993.
Since then FreeBSD is his favorite OS.
