BUG in 5.9/6.0 installer script when using hostname.if(5) alias

Clint Pachl
The 5.9 and 6.0 installers seem to have trouble with interface aliases
in the hostname.if(5) configuration. The 5.8 installer and earlier did
not have this bug. I only tested this from release to release, not
snapshots.

With an alias configuration, the upgrade script outputs a SIOCAIFADDR
"file exists" error and then hangs when fetching install sets from my
local server, or even accessing ftp.openbsd.org for a list of sets. My
install sets are on a local server, sys.mokaz.com [10.0.9.1], which is
also the default gateway.

To remedy the problem, I can exit the install script, delete the
interface, manually reconfigure it, and restart the install. Or, I can
comment out the "alias" configuration before running the upgrade/install
process.

This behavior occurs with two of my servers which use aliases; one is an
Intel Atom and the other a Core i7. All the output below is from the i7
server.  I can include the Atom server's data if needed.

# cat /etc/hostname.em0
inet 10.0.9.17 0xffffff00 NONE
inet alias 10.0.9.3 0xffffff00 NONE   # comment alias to avoid installer bug
